The Rhode Island House Judiciary Committee will be hearing the so-called “Equality in Abortion Coverage Act” (2023-H5006) on Monday, March 6 beginning at 2:00 PM in Room 35 (Lower Level) of the State House.
The bill will allow state taxpayer-funding for abortion-on-demand in Rhode Island, both through the state-managed Medicaid program and through state employees health benefits programs, by removing statutory prohibitions thereupon that have been in place since the seventies. Please keep in mind that these prohibitions already permit state funding for abortions performed in the so-called hard cases of rape, incest, life of mother.

Please take a moment right now to email the 15 members of the Judiciary Committee, and the Committee Clerk, by copying and pasting all of the following into the “To:” field of your email:

Please begin by stating your name and the town in which you reside. Let them know that you oppose their efforts to use your tax dollars to pay for the taking of innocent human life. Ask them to vote against H5006 and any other similar effort.

You may also take a moment to call the Judiciary Committee Chair Robert Craven (401) 294-2222, First Vice Chair Carol Hagan McEntee (401) 222-1787, and Second Vice Chair Jason Knight (617) 943-6532, to leave a brief and respectful message that you do not want your tax dollars paying for abortions.
THIRD
Please join us at the State House on Monday if you are able. As usual, your testimony will be limited to two minutes. In-person testimony is the most effective thing you can do, but even if you can only drop in for a few minutes or do not want to testify, please come show your face and sign-up in opposition. Please wear blue as the abortion advocates will be wearing either pink or green.
If you are unable to make it right at 2 pm, do not worry. There are a number of other bills on the agenda, including the pro-life “Born Alive Infant Protection Act” 2023-H5047, about which you may also wish to testify, thus we anticipate the hearing running late into the afternoon.
Lastly, please share this action alert widely over the next few days and ask like-minded relatives, friends, and church-mates to also make their voices heard.
