Why have these Solemn Prayer Assemblies?
Our purpose in 40 Days of Love is for us all to love our God
more, and to love our neighbors better. To do this, WE need
to be transformed. Getting back to our first love is about
repentance, cleansing, seeking a renewal from God, and
receiving a new empowerment from the Holy Spirit.
How will we be praying?
In each community the gatherings will be held in the open
air (rain or shine, barring serious storms) and will be led by a
group of local pastors who love Jesus. The prayer time will
be planned so that believers from various traditions and
distinctives can all pray in unity.
Our prayers will include: the praise of God, confession of our
sins of omission and commission; a plea for God’s cleansing;
inviting the reviving work of the Holy Spirit; prayer for the
advance of the gospel; petitioning God for His blessing on
our churches, cities, towns, state and their leaders; and
asking for the advance of the gospel of Christ here in RI.
Will this be like a gospel concert?
No. These simple 60 minute gatherings are for the Body of
Christ to get serious about united prayer. No speeches. No
bands. No seats. Just standing, kneeling, sitting on the grass
or a chair we’ve brought, and being led in prayer.
Is this part of 40 Days of Love?Yes.
40 Days of Love is a personal exercise in which you pray daily at the time and place of your choosing, doing so in one
accord with others believers praying in the same way.
To this end, from Sept. 19-27 there will be 9 Solemn Prayer
Assemblies held in communities around RI, and daily prayer
walks called Prayer Walk RI which will ultimately encircle
the whole state in strategic prayer for a new advance of the
gospel in Rhode Island.
Do I need to sign up for these Assemblies?
No, but it will help us prepare ahead. And it will help our
testimony by enabling us to help out with Covid-19 contact
tracing, should that be needed (despite our approved, safe,
masked, and socially distanced gatherings).
